Stand Up for Our Community!

Why this Fight Matters: As private interests vie for our most treasured public spaces, city leaders know Lake Worth Beach voters will not support their development plans outright.

City leaders want you to vote away your right to have a voice in the development of our public parks, our public beach, the golf course and all other city-owned property.

Charter Amendments Up Close

Election Results

Amendment 1:
Certification of Election Results:
VOTE NO

This amendment removes a layer of protection for fair elections.  It permanently transfers the City Clerk’s duties of certifying our election results to the PBC supervisor of elections.

Beach

Amendment 2:
City-property East of A1A:
VOTE NO

This amendment would take away your right to vote on major developments at our public beach.  Our City Charter currently requires a public vote for any leases at our beach over 30 years, protecting our beach from overdevelopment.  This amendment changes the lease limit, allowing the City to give a private developer a lease of 99 years without a public vote. It strips away a critical safeguard and removes voters ability to have a direct say on large-scale development at our beach.

Parks

Amendment 3:
City Parks and City Property Downtown and West of A1A to the Lagoon:
VOTE NO

This amendment would weaken the law in our charter called “Public Land Public Vote” which protects valuable public land from over-development. This will open city-owned property west of A1A including parks, the golf course, the cultural plaza, public parking lots and city buildings to over development. It removes your right to vote on long-term leases of certain high-value public land to private developers.

City Manager

Amendment 4:
Filling Vacancy of City Manager:
VOTE NO

The commission added this without establishing that there is a need. The charter is for long-term issues, not timeliness for filling a vacant position. Unvetted and unnecessary.

Police & Fire Departments

Amendment 5:
City Police and Fire Departments:
VOTE NO

This proposed amendment removes all references to Police and Fire Departments from the city’s charter, creating uncertainty about who would have authority over these essential public safety services.
